The Harbinger of Spring

The Mourning Cloak was named after it’s distinct markings that remind us of funeral cloaks worn and casket draperies. This butterfly over winters as an adult and eagerly emerges in early spring to find a mate. This early emergence has gained this butterfly the nickname as the Harbinger of Spring.
